Nashville’s Repeat Repeat Shines Pop-Rock Glaze on New Album, Tour.

By: Whitley Albury

It’s usually hard for me to pick a favorite band. Do I go with the bands that wrote albums that hit me right when I needed them? Or do I pick the ones who deliver incredible live shows? When I say Nashville’s Repeat Repeat is my favorite band, it’s because they tick both boxes.

Their newest album, Glazed (Dangerbird Records), came out late last month, and I’m not kidding when I say I listened to it five times in a row the day it came out. It’s not a true departure from their previous album, Floral Canyon. It’s like FC laid the groundwork for Glazed, because everything is just…amplified. The vocals shine more, the guitar solos get stuck in your head. Glazed, produced by Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney, is the perfect soundtrack to summer. It’s what you wanna listen to while you lounge by the pool, cold drink in hand (and lots of sunscreen, obviously). “Hi, I’m Waiting”, the lead single from the album, immediately works its way into your head and you’ll be humming along to the “na-na-na”s all day. “Head On” is an anthem about fighting your fears and, well, facing the world head on. “Fortunate One” and “City of Stars” are tied for my absolute favorite tracks, but I think the best part of Glazed is that each song can be a stand out single. Not a single song shines more than the others; they’re all equally amazing. (Plus, what other band gets a creamsicle-like beer named after their album?) Check out the new album here.

Did I mention how great they are live? The first time I saw them play was at The Mothlight in Asheville, opening for Beach Slang. I was blown away. Jared and Kristyn Corder have such strong chemistry naturally, but when they’re on stage together, it’s like everything is cranked up to 11. It doesn’t matter if the stage is in a small club or out in a field (like their sets at both Shaky Knees and Bonnaroo); Jared will manage to leap off an amp or speaker without missing a note on guitar solos while Kristyn truly feels the music, all with an infectious smile.

If you want to see exactly what I’m talking about, they’re currently on the Glazed and Confused summer tour, before opening for The Black Keys and Modest Mouse on the Let’s Rock tour. You can catch them at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC on 6/26, Radio Room in Greenville, SC on 6/27, Visulite Theatre in Charlotte, NC on 6/28, and Capones in Johnson City, TN on 6/29.
