Unanswered Questions in New Video for “Honesty,” from SESH

SESH (Greenville S.C.) recently debuted their gritty, psychedelic-garage-pop sound, and are rapidly picking up floored fans after each live performance. The dynamic guitar work of Justin Sardinha nuzzles raw, fuzzy riffs alongside screaming ambient work, and smart, fun solos. Adding the tight power of drummer Brandon Gallagher, and the bluesy bass provided by Drew Pack, SESH is able to weave circles around a groove, yet never lose it.

The song “Honesty,” featured in the new video, shows a slightly more subdued SESH, the clean guitar wet with reverb slowly stumbling through the chords as Sardinha sings of blame, missed opportunity, and loneliness. Gallagher’s drumming is spacious and dynamic, swelling and falling with the vocal sections.

The “Honesty” video looks like it was shot on cheap or old film, an aesthetic choice no doubt, and a good one. Sardinha is the only person seen during the entire piece. He pensively strums and sings while standing in a field, smoke billowing around him.

Coming to the climax of the song, Sardhina takes off his coat and turns to the burning fire. The camera angle moves to reveal what he’s been hiding, as the drums and guitar break loose from their cages.
