Rockweave Entwines Two Days of Music, Art, Community
By: Julie Brett
Not only will the LaGrange, Georgia, Rockweave Music and Arts Festival include all the things you’ve come to expect from a music festival, it will also help young people as organizers have pledged to donate a portion of festival proceeds to offset cuts to the music and arts budgets of schools in the surrounding Troup County, Georgia.
The festival, which will be held Oct. 4-5 at various locations around LaGrange, is expected to draw more than 20 artists and 9,000 patrons. Several textile mills were included in the plans for the arts portion of the festival, and the name of the Rockweave Mill was selected to share its name with the festival.
Twenty-one national touring artists will perform on four stages in historic downtown LaGrange. Aside from the music and art that will be on display, Rockweave Fest is focused on funding for local education. The festival website states that “Rockweave is about stitching together a future for our children.” The website also includes a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “In a real sense, all life is inter-related…tied in a single garment of destiny.”
On the evening of Oct. 5, a headlining band and artists will be featured at Sweetland Amphitheatre in downtown LaGrange. Around mid-day Saturday, several bands and artists will be featured at the Overlook Plaza in downtown LaGrange. Also on Oct. 5, various acts will perform at the festival grounds in LaGrange’s Southbend Park.
