Volapalooza Brings Another Strong Lineup for 2018
Knoxville, TN – In just a few weeks, Volapalooza will provide a lineup of slick musical performances in the heart of Scruffy City – Knoxville, TN.
Dogwoods in bloom, East Tennessee sunshine, and the perpetual sound of rock music — welcome to spring in Knoxville. This is Vols Country, and a fitting backdrop for Volapalooza, the annual gathering presented by WUTK, the radio station of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Since its inception in 2003, the festival has seen the likes of Fitz and the Tantrums, Three 6 Mafia, Flogging Molly, Cake, and the list goes on. The party kicks off at 6 pm on Friday, April 27; time to head elsewhere is 11 pm.
This year’s festival will hold its own, with Blackbear, Zella Day, R.LUM.R, Peak Physique, Hardcastle and Oddnote. Zella Day is an alternative pop singer-songwriter with an impressive resume for such a young artist. The 23-year-old from Arizona hit the ground running with her 2009 debut album, and has since worked hard to grow her sound and collect material, garnering TV appearances on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and “Conan,” even performing at Coachella in 2016.
Knoxville’s Peak Physique is another notable act; after a quick come-up in 2016, they spent 2017 carving out a spot for themselves near the top of the Knoxville musical totem pole. With moody, intimate lyrics over catchy indie-electronic foundations, cut with selective and ambient guitar work, the duo delivers a sonicscape like a wall, and one with very intricate wallpaper. The collective mix of electronic, pop, rock and hip-hop elements in all scheduled performances will surely draw a fresh, unique crowd — the finest Knoxvegas has to offer — ready to dance and mingle, while checking out the many vendors, food trucks, flow performances and other cultural offerings.
Tickets for the event are available to the public here, and are $15 in advance and $20 day of show. UTK students who’ve opted-in will be admitted free. The festival will take place in World’s Fair Park Performance Lawn, in the heart of downtown Knoxville.
